A smart meter in prepay mode and the smart meter display - also known as in-home display, or IHD - can help you see what you’re spending and when you need to top up.

Our leaflet addresses the myths around smart meters and speaks to the many benefits including:

  • Flexibility in topping up: bills will no longer be based on an estimate, and instead on how much energy the person is actually using
  • Tracking how much credit is left: The smart meter display could help you or someone in your community avoid going into emergency credit, or having their energy go off when the meter needs topping up
  • Feel more in control: A smart meter can’t automatically save you money, but your smart meter display can help you see at a glance how much energy you’re using and make choices that could help you use less, like switching to low energy lightbulbs or lowering the flow temperature on your boiler.
