Partnerships Programmes

Smart Energy GB is dedicated to working in partnership to reach vulnerable customers across Great Britain, who may face unique barriers to benefitting from the smart meter rollout. Our programmes are uniquely placed to communicate the benefits of smart meters to the British public.

Smart Energy GB in Communities programme

The Smart Energy GB in Communities programme has a regional, grassroots focus. This helps bring smart meters benefits to our audiences from a local, friendly, and familiar voice. We recruit partners through a grant-making fund which we run in conjunction with fuel poverty charity, National Energy Action (NEA). We award grants to regional organisations across Great Britain to reach specific communities.

In 2023, we worked with 38 regional partners to reach people in fuel poverty, carers and those who lack basic digital skills, to provide trusted, tailored and high-quality support and information around smart meters.

Our partners engaged in direct contact with their communities, through face-to-face events, providing advice or via telephone. Additionally, partners delivered a range of indirect activities, utilising their communication and marketing channels to reach people. This included distributing newsletters, displaying posters and social media.

Explore the experiences of some of our previous partners and learn what they and their communities gained through working together below.

National partnerships programme

Our national partnerships programme employs large scale partnerships to reach people across Great Britain. We’ve partnered with a variety of organisations to reach people, including low-income individuals and households, individuals over 65, housing association tenants and consumers on prepay meters, communicating to them about the benefits of smart meters.

Each partnership is unique and tailored to the specific needs of the organisation and audience. In 2023, we worked with 6 partners to help people living in fuel poverty. Among our partners was Poundland, a household name, enabling us to share information about smart meters with its savvy shoppers. Additionally, our partnership with the English Football League (EFL) and the EFL Trust resulted in an integrated marketing campaign, empowering football fans to take control of their energy use with a smart meter.
