Our Challenge
Many households across Great Britain struggle to manage their energy costs, and for those on lower incomes, or without essential digital skills, it can feel even harder. Through our partnership with the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), we’re harnessing people’s love of darts to help raise awareness of the benefits smart meters can bring. Our community programme is reaching areas in Great Britain where we see higher levels of rejection, helping us to ensure that everyone is offered the opportunity of a smart meter.
Our approach
Since 2024, Smart Energy GB has been working with the PDC to engage communities across Great Britain through the "Darts on Your Doorstep" initiative. Together, we have supported more than 250 grassroots community darts clubs, helping them improve their facilities and equipment while encouraging increased participation. This collaboration brings the sport closer to local communities and strengthens the role clubs play as vibrant social hubs.
A dedicated community lead visits clubs across the country to deliver face-to-face sessions, offering guidance, answering questions and building lasting relationships with members. Alongside these visits, 200 clubs have received tailored materials providing clear, accessible information about smart meters and how they can support households in managing energy use more effectively.
Through this partnership, we help club members understand the practical benefits of smart meters, from gaining better visibility of energy consumption to staying in control of their energy bills. Our joint activity extends far beyond community clubs; smart meter information is also shared at PDC TV events, supported by competitions, giveaways and social media campaigns that bring the message directly to an engaged and growing audience.
This collaboration plays a crucial role in helping people access the support and information they need to make informed decisions about their energy use. It is especially valuable in reaching customers in vulnerable circumstances, ensuring they are not left behind as Great Britain continues its transition to a smarter energy system.
As the popularity of darts continues to rise, the partnership gives Smart Energy GB a unique opportunity to reach new audiences while deepening engagement with existing fans. With tournaments and community events taking place across England, Scotland and Wales, our work with PDC provides strong geographic coverage and an effective channel for nationwide outreach.
“Our partnership with Smart Energy GB is important for communities across Great Britain both with improving darts facilities and with education on the benefits of smart meters. It’s been particularly great to see how darts legends, like Russ Bray, and current players have engaged with smart meters, particularly through TV, and social activity, like the Smart Meter showdown.”

Our results
Our first-year partnership with the PDC delivered 5.6 billion impressions (62.65% above target) and 1,973 community contacts. We also piloted the Russ Bray creative across Sky Media during the World Darts Championships delivering 506,000 impacts, as well as increasing search clicks during airtime.
This partnership has also delivered significant national reach. Against a prediction of 2.09 billion impressions, PDC channels achieved more than 5.59 billion impressions, exceeding targets by 62.65%. The strength of the results that we saw in our first year with the PDC has helped inform our decision to extend the partnership into 2026.
